About Portcullis Brewing Co

Portcullis Brewing Co was established in February 2024, but like all good things worth waiting for, it took us the best part of a year to get our shipping container brewery ready for action. Tucked out the back of the Portcullis Taphouse, our brewery is as unique as the beers we craft inside it.

How It All Started

Co-founder Elliott's journey into brewing began the way many great things do, as a lockdown hobby that got completely out of hand. What started as homebrewing curiosity quickly became a full-blown passion, and Elliott took the leap into the professional world of craft beer.

He honed his skills brewing at Brewhouse & Kitchen, before going on to brew award-winning beers with Power Monkey Brewing Co.  Along the way, he developed a deep understanding of what makes a truly great beer.

Meanwhile, co-founder Phil was on his own mission, opening the Portcullis Taphouse in Portchester, bringing community, character, and a much-needed micropub to the historical town.

A Friendship Forged Over Beer

Elliott and Phil struck up a friendship, and over the next few years they began collaborating, brewing special batches at Elliott's respective breweries to sell at the Taphouse. The response from customers was brilliant. It didn't take long for them to realise they were onto something special.

So they had what some might call a crazy idea: why not start their own brewery?

The Brewery

In February 2024, Portcullis Brewing Co was born.  After months of hard work transforming a shipping container into a fully operational brewery out the back of the Taphouse, we brewed our first batch in late 2024, and we haven't looked back since.

Every Portcullis beer is brewed with the same passion that started this whole adventure. Come and find us at the Portcullis Taphouse, we'd love to share a pint and tell you the full story.  But for now, why not buy some of our cans?  Cheers!
